Khalid bin Saqr: Sharjah seeks a safe society

Eng. Sheikh Khalid bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Chairman of Sharjah Safety and Prevention Authority, said that the Authority seeks to achieve a safe society free from hazards by promoting a culture of community prevention and the application of the highest standards of safety and prevention globally adopted to ensure the protection of society and the safety of lives and property.
Sheikh Khalid bin Saqr Al Qasimi, in a statement on the occasion of the semi-annual report of the Authority, called on building owners, consultants and contractors to take all preventive measures and procedures and abide by the standards of environment, health and safety in order to preserve the safety of workers at the sites and safeguard their lives and reduce the percentage of risks that may threaten them in the performance of their work.
He said that the Prevention and Safety Authority has achieved positive results on the level of awareness of the rules of prevention and safety during the first half of this year, pointing out that the Authority has inspected 453 residential buildings comprising 17652 apartments in the areas of Al Buteena, Cooperation, Al Majaz, Nabaa, Al Shahba, Al Qasimia and Industrial 6 and wells in order to educate building owners The residents are subject to the rules of prevention and safety in buildings and houses and to ensure the safety and security of residential buildings.

He added that during the same period, the Authority carried out 12 awareness-raising programs and workshops targeting 1,300 members of the community, in addition to the launch of five awareness campaigns that contributed to raising the awareness of nearly two million people about the rules of security and safety in buildings to reduce potential accidents and prevent risks.
For her part, Eng. Lamia Al-Noman, Director of the Support Services Department at the Prevention and Safety Authority, said that the Authority encourages the owners of buildings and houses to install smoke detectors and make sure that fire extinguishers and all facilities are subject to periodic maintenance in order to avoid accidents, noting that the role of inspectors lies in carrying out awareness campaigns on buildings This is an expression of the Authority's commitment to protecting the lives of the residents, safeguarding their health and safety, and seeking to provide a healthy and safe environment for residents and visitors to buildings.
